Need to convert JPG to PNG without installing software? PixConvio lets you change JPG and JPEG images into PNG files directly in your browser.

Choose one image or upload several JPG files together. The converter processes them automatically while keeping the original pixel dimensions. You can then download each PNG separately or save all converted images in a ZIP file.

No account or software installation is required.

How to Convert JPG to PNG

Using the JPG to PNG converter takes only a few steps:

  1. Click Choose JPG Images.
  2. Select one or more JPG or JPEG files.
  3. Wait while the images convert automatically.
  4. Check the converted image details.
  5. Click Download PNG to save an individual image.
  6. Use Download All as ZIP for multiple images.

You can also drag and drop supported images into the upload area.

The tool supports up to 20 images per batch. Each image can be up to 25 MB.

Convert Multiple JPG Images to PNG

Converting images one at a time becomes inconvenient when you have many files.

PixConvio includes a batch JPG to PNG option for this purpose. Add several JPG or JPEG images, and the tool places them into one conversion queue.

Each converted file shows:

  • Image preview
  • Original JPG size
  • Converted PNG size
  • Pixel dimensions
  • Conversion status
  • Individual download button

Once every image is ready, you can download them together as a ZIP file.

Does JPG to PNG Keep Image Quality?

PNG uses lossless compression, while JPEG commonly uses lossy compression. JPEG compression can discard image information to reduce file size. PNG stores the converted image without applying another JPEG-style lossy compression step.

However, converting an existing JPG into PNG cannot restore detail already removed by JPEG compression.

For example, if a JPG already contains compression artifacts or blurred details, those imperfections remain in the PNG.

The conversion preserves the current decoded image rather than recreating missing information.

Does Converting JPG to PNG Increase Resolution?

No. File format and image resolution are different things.

A 1920 × 1080 JPG remains 1920 × 1080 pixels after conversion with this tool.

Changing the extension to PNG does not:

  • Add more pixels
  • Increase image dimensions
  • Restore lost detail
  • Sharpen a blurry image

If you need different dimensions, resize the image separately.

JPG vs PNG: What Is the Difference?

JPG and PNG are both common raster image formats, but they work differently.

FeatureJPGPNG
CompressionLossyLossless
TransparencyNo alpha channelSupports alpha transparency
Common usePhotographsGraphics, screenshots, logos
Photo file sizeUsually smallerOften larger
File extension.jpg, .jpeg.png

JPEG is commonly used for photographs because its compression can produce smaller files. PNG is useful when lossless storage or transparency support matters.

The W3C PNG specification defines PNG as a lossless raster image format with optional alpha-channel support.

Does JPG to PNG Make the Background Transparent?

No. A normal JPG to PNG conversion does not automatically remove the image background.

JPEG does not support an alpha transparency channel. PNG can store transparent pixels, but simply changing the format does not create them.

For example, imagine a product photo with a white JPG background.

After conversion:

White JPG background → White PNG background

The background remains because those white pixels are part of the original image.

You need a separate background-removal process if you want transparent areas.

This distinction is important when searching for a JPG to transparent PNG converter.

Why Can the PNG Be Larger Than the JPG?

You may notice that a converted PNG is larger than the original JPG.

This is normal, especially with photographs.

JPEG reduces file size using lossy compression. PNG uses lossless compression. Detailed photographic images can therefore require more storage when saved as PNG.

A larger PNG does not mean the image gained resolution.

For example:

Original: 3000 × 2000 JPG
Converted: 3000 × 2000 PNG

The dimensions remain identical even if the file size changes.

If the resulting PNG is too large, you can compress it separately afterward.

When Should You Convert JPG to PNG?

A JPG to PNG converter is useful when another website, app, or workflow specifically requires PNG files.

Common reasons include:

  • Uploading to a platform requiring PNG
  • Preparing graphics for further editing
  • Creating a lossless working copy
  • Using images inside design projects
  • Preparing screenshots or graphic elements
  • Converting several JPEG files together
  • Creating PNG files before adding transparency

For ordinary photographs where small file size matters, keeping the original JPG may be more practical.

JPG and JPEG Mean the Same Format Here

You may see image files ending in .jpg or .jpeg.

Both extensions represent JPEG images.

PixConvio accepts both formats:

  • JPG
  • JPEG

The converted output is saved using the .png extension.

You do not need to rename the original image before uploading it.

Private Browser-Based JPG to PNG Conversion

PixConvio performs the conversion inside your browser.

Your selected images are processed on your device rather than being intentionally uploaded to a conversion server.

This also makes the workflow simple. Select the files, convert them, and download the results from the same page.

For sensitive originals, you should still keep your source files stored safely on your own device.

JPG to PNG on Mobile

You can use the converter from a modern mobile browser.

Open the tool, tap Choose JPG Images, and select an image from your phone. The conversion starts after the file is selected.

The tool interface adapts to smaller screens, so the upload area, previews, and download controls remain accessible on mobile devices.

No dedicated JPG to PNG converter app is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the JPG to PNG converter free?

Yes. You can convert supported JPG and JPEG images into PNG files without creating an account.

Can I convert JPG to PNG online?

Yes. Select your JPG image in the browser and the tool converts it to PNG.

Can I convert several JPG files at once?

Yes. The batch converter supports multiple JPG or JPEG images in one session.

Will the converted PNG have the same dimensions?
